Today is Duanwu Jie (端午节) or Dragon Boat Festival, celebrated by the Chinese community on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Lunar calendar. To commemorate this day, we make and eat rice dumplings, an age old tradition.

Rice dumplings are made of glutinous rice with a variety of ingredients like pork, mushroom, chestnuts, dried shrimps and salted egg yolk. In Singapore, there are many types of rice dumplings or locally called Bak Chang, made by people of different dialects and they use different combination of ingredients.
